The silversword is a pretty rare plant to begin with, existing only in the mountains of Hawaii. They shine bright silver in the light, and the story is that they bloom only once in their lifetimes of 50 years, although the more informed have told us that they've since adapted to bloom more often to compensate for the population loss resulting from predation and picking by humans looking to collect them. This shot, I think, is pretty nice, especially with the sunset behind. My family and I were driving down a mountain at the time and I got this shot past my brother out the window, so excuse the blur and slightly off-center placement of the plant itself and just appreciate the beauty of the scene.
